The Good Samaritan (and why it is important today)

Image
I think the parable of the good Samaritan is extremely relevant for us to learn about in today's world especially in the United States where I reside. People right now are so incredibly divided in political views that we cannot seem to look past our differences. The story of the good Samaritan goes as follows: A Jewish man was traveling to Jericho when he was suddenly mugged and beaten till he was nearly dead. There we several people who walked along right past the man not bothering to make it their business to see if he was ok. Those of which included a Jewish priest and a Levite. It wasn't until a Samarian man walked by and "had compassion on him" and decided to help. The Samaritan bound the man's wounds, clothed him, and proceeded to pay for the man to stay at a nearby inn for the night. It is important to note that the Jews and Samaritans were enemies and would not dare to even think about helping each other out. Christ taught shared this story to open our ey...

Share It!

I thought I would share this from something I read today. It is from John 2. The story is about Jesus' first miracle; how He turned water into wine for his mother. You see, Jesus did not have to do this for her, but because he respected his mother, he did as she said. This is important because it shows that Christ was obedient. In verse 4 it says, "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come". The Deseret News article titled Education Week: Why Jesus turned water into wine  provides some insight into what this verse means: ""What he is saying there is, 'It's not time for my mission to begin yet. My Father in Heaven is not instructing me what to do yet, but you are my mother, and so whatever you want I'll do," Johnson said. "So in that one verse, we have an amazing amount of love and reverence and honor that the Savior is showing for his mother."" I have had this verse in the back of my hea...

What I've Learnt

Ohhhh no. What better way to start this blog off than with a college application essay ,':) Honestly I can't seem to write anything "professional" without getting really, really, booooored. I read somewhere that a good application essay should be written in your own voice hence why we are here . I figured if I wrote on a *clears throat* bLoG I could sound more 'me' .I only had a max  of 2500 characters for each essay. "Briefly describe a time that your efforts have fallen short, a goal was not accomplished, or an aspiration was not achieved. What steps did you take to recover from this defeat? What resources did you use? How and why are you different today?" I had never worked a real job up until that point. I was working upfront as an absolutely terrified, clumsy, cashier at Kneaders Bakery. It never really helped that my general manager was constantly breathing down my neck. She may have had the best intentions for me in the beginning, but tha...
